heart of compassion malas

I make authentic Buddhist malas, using semi-precious stones and special woods and seeds. Malas are strings of prayer beads used with a mantra, held, or worn gently as a way of praying, focusing, and staying mindful. Traditionally malas are used by Buddhists, Yogis, and Hindus. But these days more and more people from all lifestyles enjoy them.
Simple Pleasures are the Best
Hum along with me, you know the song!  Boy, if you haven’t felt this way lately we must not be reading the same news.  Every time I make a pot of soup, tacos, or spaghetti, I feel immense gratitude. Just grateful that in this world, we have enough.  And I wish so much that everyone had everything that would bring them happiness.
A blog friend asked me recently to name  ”7 things that I love”, and I’m sorry that I haven’t had time to do it!  Until now.  But I thought about it a lot and my favorite “things” come down to these:
1. My mother and father, who are still alive and part of my life in their mid-70s, along with my sister, who is one of my best friends (Hi, Holl!)
2. My children, both of whom are teenagers and active, healthy, and wonderful
3. My husband, who saves the day by providing humor and comfort
4. My dog, who is an insane border collie puppy (not recommended) but who is learning faster than you can imagine and breaks the bank on cuteness
5. My teacher, Sogyal Rinpoche, who along with other great masters like His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Thich Nhat Hahn, make life truly wonderful
6. My iPhone—couldn’t live without it, although I would if I had to
7. My guitar and guitar lessons with Cindy Lee Berryhill, anti-folk originator and all around genius
I haven’t even listed my friends or my meditation group!
On my list there are no objects that top the people in my life. It’s really all about people.  The objects are just icing on the cake.
But I do really like this mala I made this morning for a customer.  It’s made of big, fat bodhiseeds with rudraksha seeds as counters at 7, 21, and 56.  It just feels really neat. Truly, simple pleasures are the best.
